Who does furnace repair in Richmond, BC?

Encano Plumbing repairs forced-air gas furnaces across Richmond, BC, from Steveston to East Richmond. We diagnose the problem on site (ignitor, flame sensor, pressure switch, condensate line, blower or thermostat), give you a flat price in writing before any work, and fix most faults in one visit. Same-day service is available, with 24/7 help for no-heat emergencies.

Most furnace calls in Richmond come on the same night: the first properly cold one of the fall. The furnace has sat idle since spring and something that was fine in April does not answer. A clogged filter trips a limit switch, a dusty flame sensor shuts the burner off after a few seconds, or a cracked ignitor never glows. The house stays cold and the vents push room-temperature air.

Many detached homes in Richmond, from the older bungalows in Seafair and Broadmoor to the newer houses in Terra Nova, heat with a forced-air gas furnace on FortisBC natural gas. High-efficiency models add a condensate drain, a small inducer fan and a pressure switch, and those parts cause a good share of no-heat calls.

Ed Ferreira runs Encano as a family business out of Richmond. You talk to the person doing the work, you get a flat price before anything starts, and the repair is covered by a 1-year workmanship warranty. We speak English, Portuguese and Spanish.

Signs your furnace needs a repair visit

  • Furnace not turning on

The thermostat calls for heat but nothing happens, or the fan starts and the furnace gives up after a minute.

  • Furnace blowing cold air

The blower runs but the burner does not stay lit. A dirty flame sensor, a failed ignitor or a tripped limit switch are common causes.

  • Short cycling

Starting and stopping every few minutes wears out parts and often points to airflow or a sensor.

  • Water around a high-efficiency furnace

A blocked or disconnected condensate line can leak on the floor and also trip a safety switch that stops the heat.

  • New noises

Squealing, a bang on start-up or a rattle usually means a worn bearing, a loose panel or delayed ignition.

  • Flashing error light

Most modern furnaces blink a code through a small window on the panel. Note the pattern before you call.

What a Richmond furnace repair visit covers

Start with two quick checks you can safely do yourself. If those do not bring the heat back, here is what we do on site.

Check 1: the filter
Pull the furnace filter and hold it to the light. If you cannot see through it, replace it. A clogged filter overheats the furnace and trips the high-limit switch, which shuts the burner off.
Check 2: thermostat and breaker
Set the thermostat to Heat, a few degrees above room temperature, and replace its batteries if it has them. Make sure the furnace power switch is on and the breaker has not tripped. Do not open gas valves or burner panels.
Full diagnosis
We read the error code, test the ignitor, flame sensor, switches, inducer and blower, check gas pressure and venting, and show you what failed.
Repair with a flat price
You get a written price before we replace anything. Common fixes: ignitors, flame sensors, pressure switches, blower motors, capacitors and control boards.
Condensate and venting on high-efficiency units
We clear blocked condensate lines and traps and check the PVC intake and exhaust pipes outside for leaves and debris.
Tune-up and cleaning
Furnace maintenance includes cleaning the burners and flame sensor, checking the heat exchanger, testing safety controls, checking airflow and a combustion check.

Furnace repair across Richmond, from Steveston to East Richmond

Richmond is our home base, so a furnace call here is a short drive, not a trip across the region. Detached houses from the 1960s to 1990s in Seafair, Broadmoor, Blundell and Thompson often still run an older mid-efficiency furnace in a garage or crawlspace-level utility room. We tell you honestly when a repair on an older unit still makes sense.

Newer homes in Terra Nova, Westwind and Riverdale usually have high-efficiency furnaces with PVC venting through a side wall. Richmond's wet winters on Lulu Island mean intake and exhaust pipes collect leaves and debris, and condensate drains clog more than people expect. A quick check of those pipes is part of every visit we make here.

When to book: tune up before the cold, check after outages

Richmond's heating season runs roughly October to April. The best time for a furnace tune-up is September or early October, before the first cold night, when booking is easier and a weak ignitor or dirty sensor can be replaced before it leaves you without heat. Mild, wet winters still bring cold snaps, and that is when every furnace on the street works hardest.

After a power outage, some furnaces do not restart on their own or come back with a lockout code. Turn the power switch off for 30 seconds and back on. If the furnace still will not light, call us. Never ignore a carbon monoxide alarm: leave the house, call 911 from outside, and have the furnace checked before you run it again. If you smell gas, leave right away and call FortisBC's 24-hour emergency line at 1-800-663-9911 and 911 from outside.

Gas work is done under [CONFIRM WITH CLIENT: Technical Safety BC gas contractor licence number and gasfitter class]. Licensed and insured, with a 1-year workmanship warranty on our repairs.

Furnace Repair questions

Straight answers. If yours is not here, text it to us.

Usually the blower is running but the burner is not staying lit. The most common causes are a dirty flame sensor, a failed ignitor, a clogged filter that trips the high-limit switch, or a blocked condensate line on a high-efficiency furnace. Check the filter and that the thermostat is set to Heat, not Fan On. If the air is still cold, a technician should test the parts.
Yes. Encano Plumbing answers calls and texts 24/7 for no-heat emergencies in Richmond, and same-day service is available for regular repairs. Text us the blinking error code and what the furnace is doing so we arrive ready. If you smell gas, leave the house first and call FortisBC and 911 from outside.
Public figures from other Metro Vancouver companies put a furnace diagnostic at about $90 to $150 and most repairs between $150 and $450, with bigger parts reaching $900 plus the diagnostic. Those are market ranges, not our prices. Encano gives you a flat price in writing after diagnosing the furnace, before any work starts, so the number does not change halfway through.
Once a year, ideally in September or early October before Richmond's heating season starts. A tune-up cleans the burners and flame sensor, checks the heat exchanger and safety controls, tests airflow and includes a combustion safety check. It catches worn parts before they fail on a cold night.
Encano Plumbing and Drain Ltd is licensed and insured. Gas work in BC must be done under a Technical Safety BC licence, and our details are: [CONFIRM WITH CLIENT: Technical Safety BC gas contractor licence number and gasfitter class]. Ask us about permits for any job that needs one.
If the furnace is under about 15 years old and the fault is a single part, repair is usually the better value. If the heat exchanger is cracked, it fails safety checks, or repair costs keep adding up, replacement makes more sense. If you are switching from oil or propane to natural gas, ask us about current FortisBC programs and we will point you to the official page.
